The wonder of Christmas – our second concert
12th Dec 2015, 7:30pm
St Faith’s Church, Havant, PO9 1PR
Christmas motets and carols. Although some of these may not be so well known, there will be plenty of audience participation!
Music will include a new commission from us to James Dunlop, our Guest Composer, of "O Magnum Mysterium". Our MD Peter has edited a piece from a transcription of a 16th century Flemish organum - read more about it here. We will be including a number of arrangements by David Willcocks, to pay tribute to a man who had such a profound influence on choral music. We will also be singing music from Bob Chilcott, Paul Edwards and Malcolm Williamson. We will round off with some old favourites.
We are performing in St Mary’s Church, Hayling Island on 11 December and repeating the programme the next evening at St Faith's Church, Havant, where we will be joined by Tom Kennar, its Rector.
Tom is a former curate of Warblington with Emsworth, but has a background in the performing arts, and especially singing. He trained at Dartington College of Arts in the 1980s, and has performed in a number of countries around the world, including Israel, Finland, Germany, Romania and the USA. Preferring the day-to-day challenges of ordained ministry to the endless hours of a professional musician's travelling and rehearsal, Tom nevertheless enjoys the occasional chance to perform. He is very much looking forward to his début with the Renaissance Choir!
